How to Pronounce WATER
Have you noticed? Americans don't really say the "t" sound in the middle of words like water, better, and matter. We use what's called a "flap t" in these words. It sounds more like a d.

Just Googled Marty Robbins singing Cool Clear Water: Did not seem as though he (and two companions) were pronouncing Water with a flap t. Does singing it mean pronouncing the t properly?
Good observation! Yes, sometimes singers pronounce the T sounds fully, to be clear. It often depends on the singer, the style of music, and the rhythm of the song as well. We also over-pronounce some vowel sounds. In general, songs aren't too reliable for matching to accent in spoken speech because the pronunciation isn't always the same.
