Topic:  Voiced End Sounds (B, D, G, Z, V, J)
Error Pattern:  Devoicing.  Z sounds like S, D sounds like T, V sounds like F
How to correct:  Using linking and vowel length
Practice Steps: Practice two word phrases.  Lengthen your vowel on the word with the voiced end sound.  Link to the next word.

Does it?  Was it?
Had it.  Did it.
Have it.  Give it.
Repeated phrase practice:  Does it ______ (help? cost a lot? repeat?)  Did it _____ (happen already?  Finish? help?)
Have it _____ (tomorrow, with ice, next time)

Error Pattern:  Omitting N or using NG /ŋ/
How to correct:  N is made by sealing off the air with the tongue behind the teeth.  Make sure you aren't sealing too far back, this will sound like NG.
Practice steps:  Practice common words with N:  in, on, when, then, run, fun, man, men, ten
repeated phrase practice:  in the _____, on the ______ ten _____

American Accent Training Lesson 18: Words with Second Syllable Stress, Vowel SChwa

 vTopic:  Words with second syllable stress.  We covered first syllable stress in Lesson 9  https://youtu.be/ZIP7T4u4knQ

Error Pattern: Saying the words with even stress across syllables, or stressing the wrong syllable.
develop might sound like dee-velop
This also causes vowel errors, using the spelled vowel instead of unstressed schwa.  
How to correct this Error:  Stretch the stressed syllable, use schwa on unstressed syllables.
Practice steps:  Practice words with same syllable stressed to get the rhythm.

Here are some words with the stress on the second syllable:
develop, produce, remember, appreciate, request

Here are some more common words where you might not be using a reduced vowel (schwa or ɪ)on the first syllable:
between, before, tomorrow, today, about, across, again

Topic:  Vowel /æ/ as in man, have
Accent Error Patterns: Too far back - vowel /ɑ/  (hat sounds sounds like hot), or mouth too closed, Vowel /ɛ/ (man sounds like men)
How to Correct This:  Form vowel /æ/ with your jaw open, front of the tongue down, back of the tongue up
Practice Steps: make sure you can hear the differences, use minimal pairs
/æ/ vs. /ɑ/
hat hot
jab job
after ofter
band bond
/æ/ vs. /ɛ/
man men
band bend
pat pet
Learn common words with Vowel /æ/:  at, after, man, and, ask, answer, that
Repeated phrase practice:  at the ____ (library, bank, park) that ____ (person, thing, time, computer)

Accent Error Patterns: Using a front R instead of a back R
How to Correct This: Make sure you can feel and make a back American R - use resources (below) to work on the basics.
Practice Steps: Build your R sound by itself, then in syllables, then common words, then repeated phrases.
Common words: red right ready run row rest remember really read write
Repeated phrases:
right ______ (now, away, there, and wrong)
really_____ (good, busy, happy, friendly, smart, helpful)
